One single user gets strange error message in BAP application

Hi there,

(!) The topic might not be CLIENT, but rather UAA, or something else completely (!)

we experience a very strange error on one of our insurance BAP web application (HDAG) - with one single user on PROD. I’m completely lost and have no clue whatsoever. Therefore any thoughts and ideas are welcome.

  • :white_check_mark: A user logs in to the application
  • :white_check_mark: The user can navigate to all main menu entries
  • :white_check_mark: The user can access an overview
  • :white_check_mark: The user can access the items displayed on the overview
  • :name_badge: As soon as the user uses the paging on the overview, the application shows the following error and stacktrace

(please don’t laugh about the “screenshot” - there were good reasons for it :wink: )

Further Background Information

  • The user uses an iPad & a Windows notebook and claims that the problems occur on both devices
  • The access is via Citrix with the Edge browser, which is used by all other users as well
  • The access works fine for all other users
  • When the user uses a mgm notebook to log in without Citrix, it works

The same error message, but with a different use case has occurred in another Insurance A12 application (SRC) - where one single user only has the problem:

ERGO

The same error message, but with a different use case has occurred in another Insurance A12 application (ERGO) - where one single user only has the problem:

  • :white_check_mark: The user can access the application
  • :white_check_mark: The user can access an overview
  • :white_check_mark: The user can access the items displayed on the overview
  • :name_badge: As soon as the user wants to finalize an offer (triggers a camunda process), the following error message is shown

  • Has anyone of you ever experienced or heard of such a problem?
  • Are there any known Browser-Plugins that could cause such a problem?
  • Anything related to the Edge Browser?
  • Anything else rings a bell?

Please don’t hesitate to give any idea, no matter how unclear it might be!
I’m completely lost, at the moment, but I will investigate further and test as many option as possible with the user. As soon as I know more, I’ll edit this post…

Thanks to @nhat-round-cloud we might have a lead here: Everything about Google Translate crashing React (and other web apps) by Martijn Hols. Translating web applications in browsers with “Google Translate” causes similar problems…

Sorry no ideas but two questions: You show this mysterious error in two different applications and mention both times only one user is affected. Is this the same unlucky user in both scenarios or two different users? Is there Citrix involved in the second scenario as well?

The message “Hoppla! Es ist ein Fehler aufgetreten” comes from the browser itself. (Woops! Something went wrong)
The stack trace seems to indicate that there is something wrong with the DOM Manipulating caused by some rendering topics in you react code.
Try to reproduce the error using DEV Mode and REACT Dev Tools, then you might see what / which component is actually causing it

From the behaviour you describe, I could imagine that something is going wrong with the paging of the documents for that specific user (other users with different data seem to work?) which causes the Overview Engine / it’s UI components to crash with the error. Maybe mismatch of items returned and actual present items on a page.
Could be an issue with the error handling in the Overview Engine / it’s components.

no, it’s actually 2 completely different users in different applications. The only similarity is that only 1 user of each A12 application has these types of problems. It works completely normal for all other users of these applications… :person_shrugging:

thank you for your suggestions! I’d love to do what you suggest, but unfortunately we haven’t found a way to reproduce the error. And I cannot run in DEV mode or install the react dev tools on the user’s device…

and the other point you mentioned:
actually all users that have the same role as the “problematic user” see the same data and don’t have the described problem. it’s really strange!

I will research further if there is some individual browser configuration that could cause these problems.

Ok, after some asking around: we now have 3 individual users in 3 different Insurance A12 Applications with a similar problem.

Similarities

  • there is only one known user with these problems, for all other users of these applications everything works fine
  • all 3 A12 applications are based on the same BAP (base-dpos)
  • all caches & cookies were deleted

Differences

  • 2 of these applications are still on A12 2023.06
  • 1 application is on A12 2024.06
  • 1 user has these problems with Edge, 1 user with Chrome, 1 user unknown

YES! That seems to be the reason and will and has definitely caused problems with A12 react applications in other projects!

Should we communicate and maybe address this properly within mgm?

Just to clarify: Your theory is that the affected users are using Google Translate in their browser (perhaps unintentionally) and this is causing these crashes?
