Filling out less then 3 symbols in a relationship drop down gives an error

Slowly typing symbols in a relationship drop down can trigger a search, which is then rejected due to invalid search data.

The user therefore is forced to be fast or is faced with an error message, which has no clear feedback. Is there a bug ticket that prevents A12 from attempting to search a relationship-object? I see a TRAVELS ticket (#12087), but will it also be in an A12-release?
